All I know is that prior to the "Mark II" release it did what I wanted it to. :) If it's not going to do that again I'll have to find a hack or another way to take notes.

Prior to the rewrite escape definitely cleared the active note, that’s why I commented—I miss the previous behavior which I relied on every day up until the rewrite was released. :)

Escape key no longer clears the open note
CompletedPrior to the recent rewrite the escape key cleared and focused the search bar as well as closed the open note. It no longer closes the note, and I would like it to again if possible. :)
