You know that's a built-in part of macOS, right?  You can ask Apple to change it, but not sure they will.

Sorry to revive this, but yes, it's annoying – and more so than in Pages.app, for instance. I've no idea how the actual autosave mechanism works, but in my quick testing the title bar in Pages seems to update much less frequently. Do you have any control over the interval?

Perhaps you could submit a video showing me what you're seeing?  I don't see anything different than what I see in other applications on macOS (specifically TextEdit), when I enable file auto save (I normally disable that functionality).

I'll try, but it seems to be intermittent. I've just re-opened the Composer document I was working on before, and its auto-save behaviour is now different – that's to say, it's now consistent with how Pages and TextEdit behave. Previously, I was seeing the " – Edited" suffix appear and disappear every time I typed a word, and as the OP said, it's distracting.

I'll try to capture this behaviour if I see it again, and I'll check whether it also appears in other apps at the same time.

    Sounds good - much appreciated.

I still can't replicate what has been described, but I went back through workflow and code and did find a difference between behavior with TextEdit -- Autosave in TextEdit does not clear the dirty flag.  Reloading a file from disk that was changed by another app *does* clear the dirty flag.

I've tried to better model this behavior, which might result in a fix for what you're seeing? Will be included in the next build of the beta.

Let me know if that fixes it when the update comes out.  Thanks!!

    Thanks! Will do.

For the record, here's a video. I think you'd have noticed it in all the hours you must spend using Composer, so  perhaps it affects only some installations. On my Mac it's intermittent – minutes after recording that video, I can't reproduce it in the same document.

Interesting what you say about the dirty flag. I notice that in TextEdit the red "close document" never gains a central dot when the text changes, whereas in (the current version of) Composer the dot appears and disappears to match the "– Edited" status in the title bar.

Thanks for the video.  I've definitely never seen that.
