One additional comment. The dialog box opened to a different directory than it was complaining about. I navigated to the "correct" directory and clicked Open and, bingo, it stopped complaining about needing access on subsequent openings.

NOTE: This file does not open any files or reference any files.

However, because I am using Mathjax, I have to Refresh the Preview to have the math equations rendered. I use several other markdown apps that allow using either Mathjax (version 2 or 3) and they work fine.

David, I can't remember if I have asked you this before, so forgive me if I have.

You come across a fair number of issues that I have trouble replicating.  Many of these are LaTeX/MathJax related, which is fair because you use that much more than I do.  But even there, some of those seem to behave differently on your machine(s) than on mine.  But some are not directly LaTeX related, like this one.

How old is your machine?  Have you upgraded the OS frequently "in-place" (as opposed to wiping the drive and installing a fresh copy of the OS)?

Over the years I have found that upgrading macOS in place (particularly multiple times) tends to lead towards "ghosts in the machine" that cause very strange problems.  Doing a fresh install seems to work better.  I'm wondering if that is contributing to some (definitely not all) of these issues.

Just trying to figure out what might be triggering this, and I am coming up empty.

Another thought - have you tried using a brand new user account on your machine (with no "extensions" running -- some third party extension-like apps also create confusion.)

(But again, the name of the application in this dialog is irrelevant.)

    My Machine Info:

    macOS Monterey version 12.3.1

    MacBook Pro (15-inch 2018)

    Processor: 2.9 Ghz 6-core Intel Core i9

    Memory: 32 GB 2400 Mhz DDR4

Graphics: Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB

I don't do fresh installs of OS. One problem I have is the external disk connectors don't work with this OS and I have not sprung for new disk drives since getting this machine. I have lots of software and data files that make a totally fresh install a bit too much work.

I will try a fresh "user" and see if I can get the examples rerun after I test current release of MMDComposer5.

BTW: I would love it if you could get MathJax (v2 or better yet v3) to render equations when I load the file for the first time. I have a few markdown apps that work (numbering equations is iffy on most of them). I also do a lot of work with just straight LaTeX.

A question about the path issue -- are there any symlinks/aliases along the way to the troublesome folder in your dropbox?  I still can't figure out what's going on there...

I figured out the path issue and it will be included in the next release of nvUltra. (Updated MultiMarkdown Composer coming out today with that fix as well.)
