Folder list

I have not decided what to do about this feature yet.

Since the time that feature was added to Composer 4, I rebuilt it in a *much* better form as nvUltra.  By comparison, the implementation in Composer 4 is pretty terrible, in my opinion.  Alternatively, I can't "shoehorn" the entire nvUltra app as a feature in Composer.

I would be interested in hearing feedback and suggestions about exactly what aspects of the MMDC 4 folder list worked well, and how I could best consider a "light" version to add back that isn't just a poor implementation of nvUltra.

My own workflow is that I use nvUltra to manage my folders and do quick editing of shorter notes, and when I need to do a "deeper dive" in a more complex file, I simply "Cmd-Shift-O" to open that file in Composer (since that is my default editor for Markdown files).  So in essence, nvUltra has taken over the role of that folder list view from Composer 4.  With the added benefit of much better management of non text files, improved search, and much more....

Simplistically, what worked well was simply the ability to open and list the contents of a folder. The most basic functionality, in other words.

My workflow (for writing novels) is breaking down the work into chapters and sub-chapters (scenes), and quickly jumping between scenes by selecting them from the sidebar list. Jumping out to NVUltra (wonderful as it is) breaks the flow; I need to quickly move back and forth between documents. Yes, in the way that Ulysses allows this, as do several other writing-oriented apps. I do have a fondness for MMD, though, and wish to continue with it in the future.

From my external perspective NVUltra and MMD4 provide a similar basic functionality with regards to listing a folder's files. The belly of the beast is your domain; I ask "simply" (hah) for the ability to open a folder to view and open its md files.

NVUltra has a good place in my workflows, and I am tempted to try using it in place of MMD4 since it affords the overall functionality I need for scribbling my drafts. MMD5, though, would afford a better, more comprehensive, writing environment if it let me jump into and out of scenes (md files/documents) quickly.

    Thank you for your comments.

I think this is an instance where properly defining the "problem" will help leader to a better solution.  Understanding exactly what you and other users want from the v5 folder functionality might suggest a better approach moving forward.

    Looking forward to more feedback!
