Note list (left column) slow to update
CompletedWhen I add notes from outside nvUltra (e.g., moved into the notes folder with Hazel), they often don't show up in the notes list (left column) for some time — but they show up immediately if I close the folder in nvUltra and reopen it.
If it matters, this happens with notes added to a subfolder of the main notes folder. Not sure if that makes a difference.

How many notes are you moving? How long is the delay?
When you add files, macOS sends event notifications to nvUltra that certain files have changed. Those files have to be processed and indexed. When I do it, it takes a second or two (often less). (I don't think there is any guarantee of how long it takes macOS to send the notifications.)

It's definitely more than a few seconds. Lately it seems to be indefinitely, until I reopen the folder.

So a little more data: I just used Obsidian to create and edit a daily note in a subdirectory of the main folder open in nvUltra. When I went to nvUltra after a few minutes, it did not show in the message list.
However, when I select the previous day's daily note (so titled 2021-11-04.md), and selected the cool sort-by-connectedness button in the upper lefthand corner (so it is blue), today's daily note (2021-11-05.md) was there. When I untangled the connection view, today's daily note (2021-11-05.md) was once again not visible.
In other words, nvUltra is "aware" of the new note created outside nvUltra, but doesn't display it in the default file list view.

Hmm... I'll have to dig into what could be triggering that behavior. That is helpful information though. Thanks!

The indexing algorithm has been heavily worked on over the last few months. Are you still having this problem?
Thanks!

Hi — I just did two quick tests:
- A new note created in Drafts (and filed to my notes folder with a Drafts Dropbox action + Hazel) appeared before I could Cmd-Tab over the nvUltra.
- A new note created in Obsidian, in a subdirectory of my main nvUltra notes folder, has not shown up in nvUltra after a couple minutes. Opening that subdirectory in nvUltra shows it's there. I was able to see it in the file list on my main notes folder after closing and reopening (cmd-opt-n) that main folder in nvUltra.

Do you have problems with applications outside of Obsidian? It could be that they are doing things in a "non-macOS" way, which fails to trigger macOS to notify nvUltra that there has been a change.
nvUltra doesn't care which app made a change -- it only waits for a signal from macOS that the contents of a folder have been modified. Not all programs trigger that notification (e.g. some command line programs like pico don't trigger it, for example)

Hi. Sorry for the delays. I just added a note via a Drafts action, and a minute or two later, it still isn't appearing in nvUltra.
The Drafts action adds the file to Dropbox via its API — so cloud first, then synced to Mac. I got the system notification (Notification Center) that Dropbox had added the file (i.e., it had synced), and I see it in the Finder (with a green checkmark, indicating that either Dropbox or the Finder believes it's a local file, not just a placeholder for a cloud file), but it still isn't in the nvUltra file list a couple minutes after than notification.
I opened it with Multimarkdown Composer and closed it again, still not in nvUltra file list.
I reopened it in Mmd Compser, made some changes, saved, and still not in nvUltra file list.
I toggled the nvUltra file list, to no effect.
I used the Folder Navigator to reopen the directory, and the file is there (including the changes I made in Mmd Composer).

I might have figured this out. Let me dig a little further.

I think this is fixed now. Apparently under certain circumstances a file can be flagged as changed, but the enclosing folder is not (normally it is). This updated the file in the index but did not rerun the search, so the notes list was not updated.
If you type in the search field, a new search is run and your "missing" files will appear.
Future update will rerun the search automatically under more circumstances.
Thanks!

Apologies — I keep meaning to update and failing to do so. This problem appears to be resolved — thanks! Sometimes the file list on the left doesn't update automatically, but using the search field resolves that. Much appreciated.

Thanks for the follow-up!
