Display contents of current directory only?
CompletedI have a directory containing 41 directories and I would like nvUltra to show me a display that would look like this:
- ACR-Sharpen-Dehaze-Clarity-Texture-tools/
- Adobe-manuals-and-other-resources/
- Lr/
- Ps-scripting/
- RAW/
- ZSE6/
- adjustment-layers/
- automation/
- black-and-white-photography/
- blend-if/
- blend-modes/
- brushes/
- channel-mixer/
- color/
- compositing/
- content-aware-tools/
- cropping/
- curves/
- dodge-and-burn/
- dynamic-range/
- effects-and-tricks/
- filters/
- frames-and-clipping-masks/
- frequency-separation/
- gradients/
- grading.md
- halo-removal/
- history/
- hue-saturation-adjustment-tool/
- image-sizing/
- importing/
- layers-and-Smart-Objects/
- levels/
- noise-reduction/
- painting/
- pen-tool/
- retouching/
- selection-and-masking/
- sharpening/
- white-balance/
- workflow/
Instead, nvUltra shows me all 214 markdown file in subdirectories.
Is there any way to get nvUltra to show only the content of the current directory? I could then choose a directory to descend into, at which point nvUltra would show the contents of that directory.
Can this be done, perhaps with a preference?
Thanks a bunch!

BTW, if I'm totally misunderstanding the philosophy of nvUltra, I'd like to know that, too. Thanks.

The design of nvUltra is centered around quickly finding individual notes based on search, not by hierarchical navigation. At this time there is no intention of creating a hierarchical navigator to descend into sub-folders. The goal instead is that you don't need to organize your files into folders unless you want to, but they are all instantly available via the search bar.
If you want to restrict your focus to a specific subfolder, you can right-click on a specific file in the notes list, and open the enclosing folder as a new window, which would service much the same purpose, but is a bit clunky for frequent use. I use this when looking for files in my "master folder" related to certain keywords, and then wanting to "zoom in" to a subfolder, or when I want to work in two windows at once.
You can also simply open subfolders as separate items, and then use the navigator window to see all of your folders, and then open specific subfolders that way.

Thanks for the explanation, Fletcher. I can use the idea of a flat file directory in my blog posts, which tend to be in the same directory. I'll try changing my model of how to store information. Now that I think about it, that's what I did with nvAlt, and I liked that.

The main difference with nvAlt in this regard is:
* nvUltra does support subfolders
* nvUltra supports non-text files (great for images, PDFs (which are also indexed), mind maps, and more)
I have one master folder, with several levels of subfolders to differentiate various work and personal projects, so that I can work at the level that suits my needs at the moment. So you don't have to get rid of the folder model entirely.

I think I failed to see the similarity between nvUltra and nvAlt because the former asked me to open existing directories (and mine are quite hierarchical) whereas nvAlt was more like a database with no obvious associated directory. I will treat nvUltra more like a database now.

Yup. One (of many) reasons why I wanted something to replace nvAlt for my own use. Being stuck with a single directory in nvAlt didn't make sense to me.
