Preference changes that require restart / preview/editor swap
It's perhaps worth noting in the text of the Preference window that certain features - e.g. "Move preview to left side" - require a restart before they take effect? (It was the first thing I thought of when nothing happened, but…)
If that particular one - swapping the preview and the editor - were ever possible without a restart, I'd definitely like a menu item for it (I can imagine finding it useful to toggle quickly between the two).

"Move preview to left side" works live. At this time, probably won't add a menu item since I suspect that for the vast majority of users this is a "set once and forget it" preference.
(In fact all of the General->Appearance preferences work live.)

Ah - looks like the restart is a High Sierra thing, as I've just tried it in Mojave and it is indeed instant.
(I will be upgrading the High Sierra machine very shortly.)
