Reselection of note

If I am working on a note (I only have one in my test here) and I click into the area indicated in red, I cannot then reselect my note without first clearing the search bar.

  The symptom I get is that it does not load into the editor. The item is in fact selected in the list (checked with mouse and keyboard arrow methods), as evidenced by being able to use Shift-Cmd-R and -O to rename or open in external editor, respectively. But the editor does not get built and the content loaded into it. It also happens if you use Cmd-click to deselect, for testing cases where there is no empty background area left to click within.
