Highlight search results within resultant notes

We probably won't try to automatically "pre-search" files based on the search/create bar, but one function that does need to be re-implemented after some refactoring in a recent version is that when you select a file, and Used Cmd-F to search, it pre-populates with the query used to find the file in the first place.

Thanks for pointing out that this was disabled!

Hi! First day with the beta, and having fun kicking the tires. One of the first things I noticed was that the desired behavior described here (highlight and scroll to first match in one fell swoop) was the default behavior in nvALT but is missing here. Not a deal-breaker for me and I'll get used to performing the second search, but thought I'd chime in about previously not needing to do the second search in nvALT. Thanks!

I fixed the issue with pre-populating the find bar query based on the search/create bar text.

I'm not convinced about nvAlt's behavior yet.  In exploring, it seems to only search when the query you use does not match the beginning of a file name, which leads to some inconsistencies (though that is a critique of the implementation, not the concept itself.)

Will continue to consider "pre-search" for a future update.

Agreed that this would be a great addition. For academic and research workflows in particular, quickly scanning through instances of the search term is hugely helpful.

Has there been any more thinking about highlighting search results? It's among my top 3 problems with nvUltra.

    CONTEXT:
Okay, I've had the beta (077) installed for a three weeks now, gradually moving from nvAlt to nvUltra as the confidence in my ability to use it has increased. My nvAlt use had been 7-9 hrs/wk, and is now under 20 minutes. nvUltra is ~9 hrs/week now (per Timing app).

Today I am using it heavily for research, writing a client proposal. I am finding the lack of highlighting for searched text to be a show-stopper -- reverting to nvAlt for this purpose.

My search has about 60 files with hits. Here is the unworkable work flow in nvUltra:

    1. enter search text (in this case, "cocm" which refers to Collaborative Care Model)
    2. press down-arrow to select the first file
    3. Cmd-f to open search in content window, which correctly pre-fills the search bar in that window and shows the # of hits in the file (but does not highlight the words)
    4. Click in content window, Cmd-f to highlight the hits >> I see a bright white box around the hits, but it does not auto-scroll to the first hit so I must scroll to find them
    5. I expected that pressing the down-arrow again would take me to the 2nd file, but it does not. Instead, I must click on the current file on the left, THEN press down-arrow.
    6. The number of hits does not display when it moves to the next file, so must click in the 2nd file, THEN Cmd-f, THEN the # of hits and the highlights show.
    7. Repeat Steps 5 & 6 for 58 more times to go through the rest of the files.

Because editing a file would end the search routine, I must copy and paste desired text from the searched files into another a new summary file using a different editor. In this case, I am doing the searching with nvAlt and pasting to my new summary file in Ultra.

Here is the more desirable search workflow in NvAlt:

    1. enter search text (first hit shows with highlighted text)
    2. press down-arrow to see highlighted text in second file
    3. repeat step 2 for 58 more times

    Thank you.
