An observation about pairs and text expansion
CompletedOK -- this is very minor, and it is not a bug or anything like that, but I thought I would mention it in case anyone else finds themselves nonplussed. I nearly reported it as a bug, which would have been very silly.
I had set up Typinator to create pairs of brackets and the like [[like this]] and totally forgot that I had done it. I was convinced for a while that there was a bug in nvULTRA because every time I typed in a pair of brackets, I got more than I bargained for. Then I had a suspicion. Then I remembered. So if you have similar text expansions set up, disable one or the other.
Just to add, I am trying nvULTRA again after a break of many months. I'm ashamed to say that I wrote some rather spiky comments about the app a few months ago (I clearly was not happy with the world at the time) but I find more to like this time round. I will be a rather reluctant user of Markdown, but the world seems to be turning in that direction. Maybe it will be better to go with the tide.
Cheers.

1. If you're having a collision with Typinator over `[[]]`, then the easiest way to change that is to remove `[]` from the Smart Pair preferences. Then nvUltra will behave "normally" and you can rely on Typinator to handle this functionality for you if you prefer.
2. Glad you are giving nvUltra another chance. You don't *have* to use Markdown with nvUltra, and you can also disable syntax highlighting if you wish. I only rarely use the preview pane myself, so while I technically write using MultiMarkdown it's basically the same as if I were writing in plain text.
