Praise and gratitude from a newish beta user
This is to Fletcher and Brett. I don't have any complaints, feature requests, or bugs in this post — those may come. Right now I just want to take a moment to express my delight with nvUltra. I'm a longtime nvALT user, but fairly new to the beta; I was invited about six weeks ago, but haven't taken the time to really dig in and integrate it into my workflow until the last few days. I found the advanced settings documentation, which allowed me to eliminate my one great annoyance (so much whitespace wasted in the file list! and Avenir looked weird), and have now pretty much adopted nvUltra as my main notetaking app. And I'm in love.
Yes, there are a few rough edges yet, but this is a really well thought out app that, so far, has matched all the things I've depended on from nvALT and added some nice new stuff. I love having all the panes in one window but fully configurable. The inline Markdown styling is really nice. And just now I discovered that separate notebooks can use distinct themes, making them easily distinguishable. This is huge for me: I use separate notes directories for my personal and work lives, and that's been a constant challenge with nvALT (at least ever since macOS stopped allowing you to hack the bundle ID in Info.plist and run more than one instance). Also important: HTML # anchors still work with the renderer, so I can jump to specific places in documents. (I have a nice little script that auto-generates tables of contents for long documents, and if that didn't work it might have been a deal-breaker. Maybe I'll post that in the forum!)
So I just wanted to say, I'm 100% on board, and very grateful to you both for the terrific work you've both done, first on nvALT (Brett) and now on nvUltra. I was one of those who had hopes for BitWriter, and this seems to be worth the wait. I'm looking forward to being able to pay handsomely for this app, and I will now toddle off to the rest of the site and see if I can contribute to development in the meantime.
Thank you both so much!
