Syncing with iPhones
CompletedI remember something about nvUltra not being compatible with Simplenote like nvAlt was for syncing with iPhone. There were some other suggestions instead, but I can't remember them. Can anyone point me to good alternatives and/or documentation on how best to do so?

Correct. At this time nvUltra is focused on interacting with the native file system, which makes it compatible with any sync services that keep folders on your disk synchronized across devices (e.g. iCloud, Dropbox, Resilio Sync, Box, Google Drive, etc.) We don't want to limit your choices by only offering access to a few sync services. By focusing on interacting with the file system, you can use whatever sync services best fit your needs, now or in the future.
Any of those services that offer iOS/Android clients make it possible to access your files on other devices.

I personally use 1Writer on iOS, synced via Dropbox.

Can syncing be done via iCloud? Notes created by 1Writer appear in nvUltra but notes created≥ in nvUltra do not appear in 1Writer. I have to search for the note name in 1writer for it to appear. In 1Writer search results, it looks something like
.NoteName.md.icloud

Interesting, I haven't used iCloud sync with 1Writer (only Dropbox). I'll have to look into that further.

Please do as I prefer to use iCloud for documents rather than Dropbox.

I'm very interested in this too as I'm trying to reduce my dependency on Dropbox.

nvUltra is "agnostic" as to file location. I use iCloud to sync files between mac machines all the time. As for 1Writer -- you'll have to check with them -- perhaps they don't like the "md" file extension??

I finally switched today swiched from NvAlt + Simplenote to NvUltra + 1Writer (note: don't confuse 1Writer with iWriter, or even iAWriter).
1Writer is very good. Performance comparison:
- iPhone 6S (A9 chip, released fall 2016) consistently takes a full 10 seconds to display a directory listing, or search results
- iPad Mini (A12 chip, released spring 2019) - almost instantThis is one Dropbox folder of ~6,000 files (text only, ~25MB) - already downloaded.
For an old iPhone, provided you have an internet connection, I think the best bet is to use the Dropbox app itself for searching - it's pretty responsive. You have to pay them $10/£10 a month if you want to download files for offline use though.
Simplenote was a lot faster on the iPhone, however it's not really a fair comparison as Simplenote has it's own proprietary database.
As I wrote here, on macOS 10.13, iCloud performance was terrible for me - every time I changed even one file it would try and sync the entire lot. Also I don't entirely trust iCloud (why do you suppose I'm still running macOS 10.13?) My own experience with Dropbox has been that providing you don't try and index hundreds of thousands of files (e.g. git repositories) it's pretty good - and in recent versions they've made a real effort to make the syncing more transparent. The premium price plans are of course far from optimal for small users.

William Turrell -- I commented on your other thread, so won't repeat that here.
IIRC, I was using 10.13 (or even 10.12!!) for most of last year on my desktop machine, and had no issues with iCloud and nvUltra. I did some early testing with Dropbox, but began using iCloud for my notes folders for "real world use" exclusively last year, and it has been great.
