nvUltra and DEVONthink Finder comments issue

This is probably partially a DEVONthink 3 issue, but I ask here as well if you have ideas what may be the issue in integrating nvUltra with DEVONthink. I can ask about it in DEVONthink forums, but it might help to understand a bit about what's going on.

I have a folder of notes in nvUltra. I've indexed this same folder to DEVONthink 3. An indexed folder in DEVONthink is a normal filesystem folder which appears in DEVONthink. Tags, Finder comments, etc can be added and modified both in DEVONthink and Finder, so for instance Finder comments show up as comments metadata in DEVONthink. However when I modify a file in nvUltra in any way, the comments metadata in DEVONthink disappears entirely, though it's still visible in Finder. This doesn't happen when I modify the file with Visual Studio Code for instance. Any ideas about what's going on here? Does nvUltra do some potential metadata modifications that may confuse DEVONthink?

  I think it had to do with the way I was saving updates to files.  I have made a change that should preserve existing metadata, including Finder comments.
