Toggle for Content vs Filename search

I love to see an option to limit some searches to just the filename, like in the Finder (ideally more fluid than the Finder's approach)

I have hundreds of Markdown notes with structured filenames that contain key terms (hmmm, actually 1739 .md files at the moment, not counting the ones I still need to migrate from Evernote someday.)

Depending on the search, a full content search may return tons of irrelevant results. If I could limit that search to filename only, I'd see just the dozen or so that are relevant.

Ideally through a keyboard modifier. For example, default to the current Full Content approach),  and, say, ⌘2 switches to Filename search. Sometimes I might want to limit to a Filename search upfront, and other times I might start with Full Content (⌘1) and then narrow to ⌘2.

Searching with a prefix could work too, but I'd prefer the keyboard ⌘1 vs ⌘2 type approach to make toggling easy before or after the search.

BTW, I tried prefixes like title: and name: and at first thought that worked, but that seems to be working on something else, like maybe some embedded metadata.

Anyway, thanks Brett and Fletcher for all your great work, on this and of course MultiMarkdown Composer, Marked, nvAlt, etc.

Look forward to buying or pre-buying nvUltra soon-ish. (And I'd suggest considering a Pro version or subscription so Markdown / Note / Search geeks like me have an incentive to pay an amount that reflects the real value that core tools like this have for us.)

  Thanks for the comments (and thanks for your appreciation of our work on multiple projects over the years!)

   

  We'll consider updates to the indexing/searching process in the future.  But do keep in mind that at some point, complex search needs are better served by a tool dedicated to that. (For example, I use DEVONthink, which I think is amazing for storing and organizing documents -- mainly PDFs for me).

   

  And yes, your `title:` and `name:` trials do not do anything special in nvUltra, so any apparent success you had was purely coincidence.

  I too would love some way to search by filename.

  I really feel the need of being able to search only filenames/titles.

   

  Say I prefix my work projects with "work", if I search for "work" it shows all notes containing "work" (which may be hundreds or more).

  I'd love to see an option to only show filenames containing "work".
