Include FoldingText features in NvUltra?
Jesse Grosjean at Hog Bay Software is looking for a home for his work with his innovative markdown text editor FoldingText. I am sure you are familiar with Jesse since you use TaskPaper. He is considering open sourcing his FoldingText app since he can no longer support it. I am a fan of the software especially for the outlining/folding capabilities but it might also have some other features that could be added to nvUltra. I am loving nvUltra so as a long-time user of FoldingText it seemed natural to consider if some new feature advantages might be possible from leveraging FoldingText.
Both apps are rooted in implementing plain text magic and if something could be done to use some of the functionality in FoldingText it could provide an attractive migration path for FoldingText users and some further feature differentiation from other markdown editors. Have you considered this option and talked with Jesse?
Even if none of the code could be reused I would really like to see a similar outlining/folding feature included in vnUltra.

The code won't be transferable, FoldingText is written in JavaScript. We've discussed features like folding and outlining before, and decided they don't have a place in a notes app. We'll leave it open for further discussion, though.

FWIW, I’d love folding. I use FoldingText extensively for longer documents, and the lack of folding is what keeps me from moving everything to nvUltra (or nvAlt / The Archive before that). However, I’ve begun thinking g that document trans liaison could work instead — saving components of a longer document as individual notes, then embedding them in a framework note... would be nice to be able to fold / toggle display there someday.

Outlining/folding is outside the scope of nvUltra. I have looked at doing something similar in MultiMarkdown Composer (and had folding enabled in a beta version, but the performance and reliability needed more work.)
If Jesse were to open source FoldingText, I would consider re-looking at the folding functionality.
Composer already has advanced outlining support, but again that is outside the scope of nvUltra.

Transclusion is a very powerful feature, and for some (not all) uses can be better than line folding. It's worth looking into for what you're describing (e.g. each chapter gets its own file, or something like that))
