Can the file/note name display be customized?

There is not a way to change truncation.

We can consider this in the future, but for most users middle truncation is the most useful, since the final part of the file name is useful for multiple files with same name but different extensions (e.g. `foo.txt`, `foo.png`, `foo.pdf`) or similar names with incrementing counter at the end (`Chapter 1`, `Chapter 2`, etc.)

I get the importance of seeing file extensions. But maybe truncate back from the final `.` if there is one, or middle truncation if there’s no extension?

Here’s an ambitious idea for a someday-feature: Give users the option to display (a) the metadata Title value instead of the filename, and/or (b) a standard icon for filetype next to it. Maybe not strictly in keeping with the plain-text approach, but I think it would broaden your potential user base — not everyone wants long note names. I don’t use metadata much, but I’d use this — I’d love to see my note names with spaces in the titles, but I don’t like using spaces in file names. Obviously not a high priority change, but it could be useful.

While it would be possible (presumably) to write a custom truncation function, macOS doesn't offer that much flexibility -- it's basically head, middle, tail.  In this instance, middle makes the most sense across all use cases.  If Apple adds more options, we can certainly look at them.
