Can you provide more information? It works fine for us in testing, including Cmd-H.

I am not sure I understand what Aaron is describing.

On my setup, the preference to Show dock icon is checked and the Show menu bar icon is unchecked. This preference doesn't hold across restarts of the application.

I'm running 10.14.6 and just did some more experimenting.

When show dock item and/or menubar is checked, everything works correctly.

When show dock item & show menubar icon are unchecked, everything works correctly. Meaning: when I switch to nvu the menubar updates to show I'm running nvu and I have access to File, Edit, Format, etc. I can also hide the app with CMD + H.

Show menubar icon checked, but not the show dock icon:

When I switch from Safari (for instance) to nvu, the nvu window pops up as the active window. I can start editing my notes.

But the menubar still shows Safari is the active window and Safari's File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, etc are my menubar options. I think that's why CMD+H doesn't work. macOS is trying to hide the Safari app but the active app is really nvu.

I can record my screen if that'll help.

    Thanks for the details!

When you switch to nvUltra from another app, the menu bar should become nvUltra's.  If it's still showing Safari, then something is not working properly on your computer.  I'm 99% sure it's not nvUltra's fault (but not 100%, so I could be wrong).

I have tested in 10.14.5, but not 10.14.6 yet.  Try rebooting your computer and seeing if that fixes it.  If not, run as a new user -- you may have some other application/utility running that is interfering with normal macOS behavior.  I'll upgrade to 10.14.6 and test when I get time -- it could also be a 10.14.6 issue I suppose.

PS>  One or both of the icon prefs must be checked.  I realized that it only fixes it for you in one direction.  This is fixed for next release.  So if you are truly running with both disabled, you may inadvertently run into some other trouble.

BTW, how did you expect to find the application again if you hide the menu bar icon and the dock icon??  ;)

I just did rebooted and get the same behavior regardless of whether I switch back using Witch or Alfred.

Btw, that's why I don't need nvu in my dock. I keep my dock hidden most of the time anyways, so this option is mostly a moot point for me.

It's fine about the dock, but if not in the dock, it's got to be in the menu bar or it becomes inaccessible, no?

BTW -- are you only switching with Witch or Alfred?  What about when you switch by Cmd-Tab (if Dock enabled) or clicking on the menu bar application icon?

I've setup Witch to intercept CMD+Tab. I prefer Witch over the built in switcher because I can choose which applications to show and hide in Witch's list. For example, I have Fantastical hidden in my dock but I can still switch to it via Witch. Or Alfred which is what I usually do because it's faster.

I don't think of the applications as inaccessible because I have a couple of ways to bring up the apps. nvu is going to be one of those apps I always have running, just like omnifocus or safari. And switching to nvu via Alfred by typing CMD+Space and then 'n' is just too fast to bother with the mouse or trackpad.

Right, but do you still get the menu bar issue when you switch to nvUltra the "normal" way?

Also -- don't forget that nvUltra allows its own global shortcut, which also works for me as far as the menu bar goes.  So you don't need any other switcher if you want to assign it a dedicated shortcut.

Everything works correctly if I click on the menubar link or use a global shortcut.

Should be fixed for next release.

    Thanks for the additional information!
