[BUG] Inserting CM comments conflicts with Track Changes
CompletedWith View ▸ Track Changes mode enabled, and the Insert automatic comment with CriticMarkup setting in preferences disabled, use of the CriticMarkup command to insert comments will be itself marked as an addition:
- Hit ⌃⌥⌘X to enable Track Changes mode, in a document with some lorem ipsum text.
- Place the cursor somewhere in the text and use the Format ▸ Insert CriticMarkup Comment menu command.
- Next select some of the text, and use the Format ▸ Highlight Selection for CriticMarkup command.
The results from both tests:
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet,{++{>> comment <<}++} consectetur adipisicing elit, sed do {==eiusmod tempor incididunt==} ut labore et dolore magna aliqua.
Expected result:
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet,{>> comment <<} consectetur adipisicing elit, sed do {==eiusmod tempor incididunt==} ut labore et dolore magna aliqua.
I included the highlight command for reference, since that one seems to be working fine, with or without the automatic comment setting.

Inserting a comment can also be used with an existing selection that converts text into a comment, which would require tracking that change.
I added an exemption if the new comment is truly an insertion, not a change of existing text.
Thanks!
