    Window->Focus (or ⌘⇧F) toggles it reliably for me, both ways. Is that what you're using?

    They might have dragged it over to the far left with the mouse, and then once you do that, if you're unaware of the menu command and shortcut toggle, think you're out of luck. Maybe leaving a small "handle" area, using the window or sidebar background colour, would help mitigate that confusion.

     

    (And maybe I'm wrong about what they mean!)

    Amber nailed it. That was the problem. I never could have imagined that "Focus" stands for "Toggle Sidebar". Usually "focus" is for focusing on current paragraph or sentence. Maybe its just me, but I would change the name ;)
