Years ago there was a bug in WebView where inserting a space (not any other character) into the HTML would cause a jump.  That seems better in WKWebView (the modern replacement of WebView).

Interestingly, newer versions of NSTextView seem to have picked up this same bug under certain circumstances (it did not exist in old versions of NSTextView).  To date, I have not found a workaround for NSTextView.  For WebView, I had to intercept and prevent insertion of space characters into the preview.  This was the only solution that seemed to work.

I suspect that is what you are experiencing…

Thanks for the quick response, Fletcher. I must admit that I am not familiar with WebView, WKWebView, etc. But if I understood correctly, yes, I only experience this bug in the Editor; the Preview does not jump at all.

I'm also experiencing it. I'm not using full screen.

It seems to be exacerbated by the number of lines. In my specific case it's a 129 lines as a list of short items. If I insert the space on a high line, say 70 or less, no jitter but much below that and it starts. It's hard to say whether it gets worse more than just is or isn't.

I have notes with far more characters but fewer lines that it doesn't happen to.

This is happening for me even when typewriter mode is off. 2023.09.20.16.54

It's bad enough that I can't type in NV and have to cut-paste my text into another app to keep working.

I think I finally figured this out.  Briefly, it has to do with a fix for an issue long ago affecting some CJK users (e.g. 2-Set Korean).  It should be fixed in the next release. (It's fixed for me when I test it.)

The problem occurs when editing a large block of text that requires “re-highlighting”, especially if that block of text extends above the top of the editing window.  The easiest way to trigger it is a long list (since the list items themselves can be short).

    Thanks!
