Tab alignment fails in sub-lists
Hanging tabs fails with text in this pattern:
1. List item-Sub item 1 lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Vestibulum sapien felis, varius a placerat eu-Sub item 2 lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Vestibulum sapien felis, varius a placerat eu-Sub item 3 lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Vestibulum sapien felis, varius a placerat eu
- There's a tab after `1.` on line 1
- On lines 2, 3, and 4, there's a tab before and after the initial hyphen, making them sub-bullets under line 1.
This causes hanging tabs to fail.
Hanging tabs do not fail if the `1.` on line 1 is followed by a space instead of a tab. Tabs also don't fail if Line 1 simply reads "List item" with no preceding numeral or whitespace.

What you describe is not what is pasted above (e.g. there are no tabs.) Maybe that is an artifact of the web forum, which does seem to strip tabs.
But, when I put what you **describe** into nvUltra, it works with hanging indents as it should. (I am assuming you have elastic tabstops enabled.)
**UNLESS** I go from `1.` to `11.`, in which case, the leading tab for the first item is "too wide" and screws up the subsequent lines. This would explain, why changing to a space affects the indentation of the sub-items.
Change the minimum elastic tabstop width in the Appearance preferences to find a number that works better for you.
