[Bug?] nvUltra Beta crashes on launch of app
CompletednvUltra Beta (v.1.0.0b78) crashes on launch, repeatedly
At first, I was trying to diagnose why the menu icon kept disappearing (dock icon was OK). I quit nvUltra and reloaded, and menu icon reappeared.
Then the icon again disappeared, and the application crashed. NO crash report or log was generated. Repeated attempts to reload nvUltra failed. App would start to load, menu icon appeared briefly, and then the app crashed.
I am on a MacBook Air (Retina, 13-inch, 2018)
Mac OS 11 Big Sur 11.2.3
Please note, I use a Mac OS utility (one of several actually) that loads on startup. It's called Bartender 4 (v.4.0.41) and is intended to help manage menu icons. It is not creating any other problems. For what it's worth, nvALT (v.based on NV 2.0 β5) is also installed on this device, not in use, and when tested showed no similar behavior, i.e., menu icon stays in the menu bar, and app does not crash on loading.
nvUltra Beta was recently added to list of login items for me as User on boot of this device. It has been operating properly until the current behavior (about a week).
I have saved a .txt file of a few seconds of "Console" activity recorded during an attempt to boot nvUltra, and searched, as instructed, on "nvultra." I need instructions or steps to follow to share file securely.

What do you mean when you say the dock icon was ok? If either icon is present, the app (generally) is still running.
Also unusual for an app to crash and not generate a crash report (and to pop up the macOS window with the crash report.)
Does the same behavior occur when Bartender is not running?

What I meant is what you said. If the icon was in the menu, it was running. If not, not.
I also found it unusual that the app would appear to start up and then stop running. But the tell-tale was that the menu icon would appear (before the app file window opened) and then disappear, and the app was not running at that point.
I did not try running nvUltra with Bartender turned off. Bartender has never been a problem. It seems to operate properly with all other apps that have icons appear in the menu bar. But I'll try it.
In the current state, I quit all apps and logged out and then restarted the device. nvUltra opened fine as a "log in" item, and the menu icon appeared and was stable. I switched back and forth between nvUltra and other apps and desktop by clicking on the menu icon.
In the meanwhile (I just looked to check), the nvUltra menu icon has again disappeared, and the dock icon is still present, but there is no indication the app is running. Activity Monitor (which I just launched) does not show nvUltra as operating.
I was able to launch nvUltra from the Applications icon in the dock. It is operating now, and the menu icon has appeared showing the app is running. The dock icon also shows nvUltra is running.
I'm sorry about this anomalous behavior, but I can only report what is happening as I am able to observe it.All I can do is stop Bartender from installing, and again try to observe nvUltra behavior.
I'll report any unusual or further anomalous behavior.
I also still have that log of the Console report, if you want it. Please indicate where to send the .txt file.
Thanks.

Sorry Fletcher, I have posted a very similar issue (including 3 attachments) in a wrong place.
I have not a clue, why all other .md files in various folders do open just fine, but the one attached does not. I had a look at it in BBedit, but I have seen nothing untowards.
Thank you for any help.I have not a clue, why all other .md files in various folders do open just fine, but the one attached does not. I had a look at it in BBedit, but I have seen nothing untowards.
Thank you for any help.Adrian
Sadly, I cannot attach here .txt files
I do not understand why we have this restriction exactly here. So I must now copy-and-paste the crash report.
Thank you for all the time you spend on this new application.

Adrian Fronda -- If you open a support ticket, you can attach files (which is what you already did, just commenting here for others). You can't attach files in the forums.
As to your specific file, it triggers a bug in the elastic tabstop mechanism. This has already been fixed for an upcoming version. For now, you can either turn off elastic tabstops, or change `#<tab>` to `#<space>` in your headings.

Howard Dinin -- You can open a support ticket and attach documents there, including the text from the Console. We'll see if anything useful shows up.
Thanks!

Howard's problem solved in support ticket -- not related to nvUltra.
