Significant typing lag
CompletedAll of a sudden, on both of my (very similar) MacBook Pros, nvUltra lags significantly when typing. I don't have Xcode to profile with but can get it if needed.
- Lag happens when typing in any file, including new blank files
- CPU does jump up for NVU. No other app using much CPU at the moment.
- I'm using one folder of 4300 files, 99.9% of which are .txt, others .md
- Deleting NVU plist file fixes the problem. This was the case on both of my machines. On my current machine, I did this yesterday and then restored all of the preferences manually. This morning the lag is back. I deleted the preferences again and this time won't restore them right away.
Machine I'm typing this from:
- MBP Retina late 2013
- 2.6 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
- 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
- 1TB SSD

Sounds like you should restore the preferences one or two at a time to figure out which one is the problem. Can then send screenshots of your preferences and we can troubleshoot.
Thanks!

Fletcher Penney Good idea. Will do.

I'm afraid this problem has started up for me again as well. If you'll remember this was happening to me and nothing seemed to fix it until I reinstalled my entire OS. Now it has started again.
Nothing to report beyond that. I'm trying to isolate it, but even deleting all preferences isn't helping the problem. Will keep you posted. Just wanted to say me too when I saw this post.

If either of you are able to figure out the circumstances that trigger it, let me know. I have not been able to do so. And obviously if reinstalling the OS fixes it, then at least one of the potential causes would seem to be unrelated to nvUltra.

Any further information on this??

Unfortunately, no. When I have had spare time on weekends I have tried to isolate it and figure out what is going on, but I can't get a handle on it. I even reinstalled my system again a few weeks ago and the lag was still there. I really wish I could report more, but I can't figure out anything.
But I just got the email yesterday about a new Beta version, so I will try that.

Not an issue for me anymore! Thx for following up.

David LaSpina -- I'm afraid I don't have any ideas to suggest. What machine/OS are you using?
Jack Brannen -- glad things are working well for you!

I'm using a mid-2014 MacBook, 2.6 dual-core i5 w/8gb ddr3 ram. It's a bit long in the tooth at this point. It's running 10.15.7
Good news is I am not experiencing any of the lag and slow down on the new mark II beta, well *not yet* anyway. I will keep playing with it and see if I replicate conditions and experience any.
Do I understand correctly that development has mostly entirely switched to the mark II beta? If that's the case, I'll focus my testing on that version.

* Yes, all development is on the new beta. Any new releases of the old beta will only have a bumped version number and will only happen if needed to delay migrating everyone to the new beta due to problems with the new beta.
* Glad you're not having problems with lag on the new beta. I'm not sure why, as the core text engine is the same between the two...
If you start having problems again, reach back out to us.
Thanks!

Fletcher Penney I'm experiencing lag again but now can't find the plist file to delete. I don't have anything in my Library > Preferences that contains “nv” or “ultra." What am I missing?

Fletcher Penney Did you see my question above?
