Preview constantly updating, despite preference setting

The Preview is constantly updating as I type. As I type a sentence, the Preview jumps around a bit every 2-3 characters. It is so distracting that I had to toggle it off.

My preference setting for "Update preview" is "Whenever file is saved".

  Turn off synchronize preview location while typing.
