Typographic Quotes in Smart Pairs
I know there’s an existing question regarding the typographic quotes in Smart Pairs. In is is the comment:
> The "correct" way to handle smart quotes in MultiMarkdown is to use straight quotes in the text, which are automatically converted to curly quotes in the output (but remain straight quotes in the source text.)
Much of my writing involves code samples, and I refuse to us "straight" quotes in ordinary text. On the mac it is _really_ easy to enter “smart” quotes, so I find that automatic conversion is too much hassle for no gain.
> I'll consider revisiting the algorithm again in the future to see if there is an efficient way to handle multibyte substitutions.
Is this feasible?

It is probably possible, but will require a rewrite of a core part of the engine. It's a low priority issue behind other more pressing things, so no promises on a timeline as to when it may be addressed.
